House Plant Identification

When caring for a houseplant, it is difficult to know what to do to keep it healthy unless you know what type of plant it is. To identify a house plant, you will have to notice the size and shape of the leaves, leaf texture ( leathery, fuzzy, shiny, etc), growth habbit (e.g. tall straight tree, low bush, creeping vine, etc),size of the plant, color of the leaves (dark green, light green, yellow, etc), color pattern of the leaves (varigation or varying shades). Once you have made a note of all of these features you can compare them to books and literature on plant species. In identifying your plants, it is best to try to find the latin name because common names for plants can vary across regions. The latin name will always be the same, however, even in another country and another language. The latin name should also usually be on the plant name tag when you buy it.
